You’ve made it this far, you're probably wondering who I am.
My name is Connor Jones, and I'm a recent grad from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Advertising and a business minor. I have been proudly part of the Texas Creative portfolio sequence at UT Austin. TXC has allowed me to push my understanding of what makes good advertising great and what makes it forgettable. I have learned how to make quality work from my classmates and professors who have guided me through this portfolio sequence.
All my life, I’ve been in tune with my creative side and have pursued this drive in any way I could. My earliest memory of finding my spark for design and creation was through LEGO. I was, and still slightly am, the kid who collected Legos and had bins on bins of them stored in his closet. Begging my parents to get every kit, bundle, or combination of pieces I could get from the store. While I never wanted to clean them up, I had endless days of rearranging all of the pieces I had collected and found countless ways to structure them into a Star Wars drone, a knight castle, or an 8-wheeled moon traversing dune buggy. No matter what I built, I enjoyed the nature of taking what was in front of me and creating whatever I wanted out of it.
The reason I used to and still love LEGO is exactly what I love about being a creative. Every brand's goal is different and their needs are even more so. Yet when taking those LEGO pieces as fundamental principles, design elements, structure, color hues, attention to detail, kerning, etc., it begins to look more like a puzzle with missing pieces. This puzzle is what drives me to create better work than my last. Knowing the LEGO pieces I hold onto and how I can bring these pieces to an agency, the classroom, or individual brand work and apply them is what drives me. My guiding principles of design will hopefully lead me to create something that will impact not just myself, but the world.
